Playing 9 lines per spin, one cent per roll, with each horizontal point the dollar amount left in the machine after each track of the new Woozyhelmet CD, a record that has provided us much joy since the first catch we got of the unmastered tracks.  Party punkie fun indie quiet loud bang bang party pop most extreme.

CONCLUSION: Your money is way better spent buying the new Wooz rather than gambling. Shit is aces, with that dark loud Space City Rock sound that we bet they are wary of but that we love. Saturday catch them at them Artstorm at 7pm for free. Oh and free beer too. With Wild Moccasins and the Jonx. Take a few bucks and pick up the CD. It’s certainly worth the twenty we spent, but getting to see them free and the record for far less than that? Recommended.

You know, it’s a frequent refrain of ours – PUT OUT A RECORD. You could say it’s pretty much up there in the top three of our un-solicited ANGRY DAD advice along with “be kickass” and “STOP RELEASING THIS CRAP BEFORE ITS READY.” So yeah, there is somewhat of a balance to be struck between the first and third parts of our trinity. And considering that we just made up “be kickass” a few minutes ago to avoid the semblance of a duality and all the lazy writing devices it would no doubt encourage us to ying yang use, we’re really offering a net-out of no advice at all. That being said, some of our H-Town favs have kept their sweet jams in occultation for more than a few trips ’round the birth-control wheel too long. Among them is the album Joax by Inoculist, the product of prodigal son and once again Brooklyn resident John Hunter along with Heath Flagtvedt, Will Adams (The Ka-Nives), Danny Mee (The Jonx), and Aimee Hunter.

Like most local albums that grow long in the tooth on the shelf, there are actually perfectly understandable reasons for the delay – and, sadly, generally they boil down to money. Most of Joax was written by John and Heath in 2005 back when they started playing things out live in NYC (the exception being “The Chorus,” which was written with Bring Back the Gunner Matt Brownlie). Wanting to take their, ahem, time with the recording, John eventually came back to Houston and used God’s Temple of Family Deliverance’s recording gear (aka – the Johnny Killed Rock and Roll studio setup – RIP) to set the album to tape in the comfy confines of the Feagen House (also RIP – good lord a lot has changed in the last few years). The album was mixed by Steve Christensen at Sugar Hill, but it took the better part of the last year to save up to have the masterpiece mastered (by California-based Golden Mastering). So that brings us to present, or rather, to later this week or the next when Joax will finally be released by Union Without Nation Records (initially as a digital download, eventually in a hardcopy Luddite format).

Damascus Deposition We Know

Aah yes. Now you remember why you come here. To clarify, and in conclusion, these tracks and this album is not to be confused with the follow-up, which was recorded last month here (again) in Houston, this time at the studios of Mr Frank Davis. We expect that particular green-patch of tracks to make it to store shelves sometime around when a joint Soviet-US space mission escapes Jupiter’s orbit just in time before one million black monoliths sufficiently increase its mass and cause it to collapse into a second Sun. Party. In the meantime, be sure to check in over the next few days at either the band’s MySpace or their label’s page to get all the deets on how to get some good Joax of your own.
