Just this last weekend they had their CD release show over at Rudz, with a bill of bills that included Listen Listen and Spain Colored Orange (more on them doing things later in the week). Though we had to take the night in, we heard report that the show was packed and that many of you have a much better insider track than we do on the goings on. Pics plz.

BUT – we are fortunate enough to tell you that, in addition to the new EP (which, is fantastic, btw, and will be coming soon to a ramble near you) our fav quartet of exiled Veronans have been up to quite a few other things. Cause you know, it ain’t enough to just put out good records for some folks.

To start with, recording a set of originals wasn’t enough, so they had to go ahead a record a much beloved Jawbreaker standard, “Accident Prone.” Yup. Grab the MP3 Here.

Oh, and what enterprising band wouldn’t take the time to make a video of one of their new tracks while they’re at it. Well, most of them it turns out, but not The Sour Notes – check this aces visualization of Is it Happening from Received in Bitterness.

Not enough for you? Well, you’ll have to wait a while to complain to them in person, as they’re currently in the midst of a tour taking them through the South, over to the East Coast (including a Baltimore appearance with Jana Hunter) and back again. So, if you were looking for a reason to head up to Austin on the 24th, you would be well to do so considering they’ll be up there playing (again) with Spain Colored Orange, Dizzy Pilot and We Landed on the Moon. Sadly, they have no Houston shows listed on their schedule at the moment, making it even more double plus un good that we missed their set the other night. Next time.

In 2007, Jana Hunter sent us a video-phone clip of Health playing some club during the middle of the day at SXSW. Too big to be offloaded, it sat trapped forever in a tiny screen with tinny speakers – but even in so safe and small a place, Health freaked us out. We weren’t sure if our phone was going to destroy itself every time we watched it. Sadly, that phone was destroyed in a fit of rage, and the video is lost to eternity. Not so for this decidedly Koyaanisqatsiesque take on the lead-off from their 2007 album self-titled release.

Health share the stage at Numbers with far too big an opening act lineup that includes atleast BLACKIE, The McKenzies, The Wiggins and Female Demand.

If the fact that they have songs called “Ghost Dick” and “Butt Song” aren’t enough reason for you to go see Spring’s Letters to Voltron at the Mink, maybe this video for “The Clap Came Back” will change your mind. Or perhaps not. Man of one million projects Broman is also on the bill.

We always dug pretty hard on Death From Above 1979 and the fact that they broke up after one album always annoyed the Pringles out of us. We seem to remember it being something about Creative Differences®, which makes sense considering one of them went on to do this MSTRKRFT thing. They (he?) play tonight at Warehouse Live.

BREAKING NEWS LIKE TREE LIMBS: Three whips as buggies shows whose statuses were in doubt like Thomas are, in fact, going to bring sweet relief to countless ears no doubt over saturated with the latest KTRH 740 News Radio Update.  Tomorrow The Silver Jews, originally set to play in the citrusy surroundings of the Orange Show has  been moved to Walters on Washington (Orange Show tickets will be honored). There at the Bar that Roy Mata Built, and hopefully with the great-eyed photog Miss Emily Driskill by his side, the doors open at SIX and the whole thing will be over by NINE. Silver Jews will take the stage SOMEWHERE IN THERE. Yes SIX to NINE as in this is an early show so get there, well, early. Why so early (SIX TO NINE!)? Well, its queer you should ask.

CAUSE ROUND TWO AT WALTERS THAT EVENING IS THE QUEERS! Still on, still going like white go-go boots. We’re not sure how they’ll shuffle one crowd out and the other in, or if there is any opportunity to buy a combo-meal pass of tickets of rock (two different promoters are doing the shows), we guess all that fun will have to be found out at the door (oh how awesome would it be if Jeoaf Monocles was working the door. Oh man, it’s like the best thirst and boredom-fighting action team of all time. Oh man.  We’re going to make the three of them matching outfits.  Oh man).

BUT OH – THERE IS A SHOW TONIGHT TOO  GREAT CONFLICT OF THE HEART AND MIND! Jana Hunter, along with fellow Baltimorian Lesser Gonzales Alvarez have moved their show from the powerless DiverseWorks to the intimate surroundings of the Wakefield strip-anchoring joint known as the Petrol Station. Show kicks off also at seven, and is free (but bring a few bucks to throw Jana and Lesser’s way; gas is espensivez). The Petrol Station is currently operating on a cash-only basis, and does not have liquor. BUT – this is your big chance to check out the future of your nightlife, as you’ll be only blocks from the other ACE MAKING WAY STATIONS OF YOUR BOOZETURE! Yes, Wakefield Drive is also home to other great hole in the walls such as the Corner Ice House, Red’s Country Place (the Parrot Bar) and, of course, the epic DUTCHMAN. Want to check these places out? Head East after the show, keep your eyes peeled, townie bars like to hide. Party.

Our friends over at DiverseWorks are putting on quite a show next Wednesday night, with none other than Wicked Poseur, Lesser Gonzalez Alvarez and presumptive star of a theoretical sixth season of The Wire, Jana Hunter, on the bill. Though Jana turns up back around town here and there (hello Fourth of July), it’s been more than a few since our and Devendra Banhart’s favorite fitter of unfitted hats has graced a 713 stage with an instrument in hand. Considering the wild rumors that she might kick the can of music for good in the near future, this show (as always) is one not to miss.

Anyways, though we’re sorry the collective staff got sucked into the story of Jana Hunter’s current haunt, know safely that we’ve completed the entire fourth season and the writing drought should be over soon cause, let’s face it, they killed off one of our favorite characters and McNaulty has gone from making us feel good about ourselves to making us feel like dirtbag drunks. Faaaahq.
