Security
May 22nd
tonight i delve headfirst into evil – i am working security for the nine inch nails show – icky. i was hoping there would be a good opening band, but you can’t always get what you want. in other news, all of the darts for my self-defense nerf gun have gone missing. i am now at the mercy of the well armed im department.
Condorman
May 21st
i am absolutely shocked that so great a movie as Condorman has no apparent underground following – did no one else get eased into the Bond-genre with Michael Crawford‘s comic-booking hijinks? Did a black Porsche not cause such alarm for others as it did for me? Call me crazy, i blame the media.
Idea Regarding Bilingual Education
Apr 24th
i remember reading in college that it was better for bilingual children to be educated in both english and their native langue tounge rather than just english immersion. why not tap the distance learning power of the internet to overcome this problem. it has been estimated that there are 3.5 non-english languages per school in america, which makes it too expensive to keep an on hand expert in so many languages. one of the strengths of the internet is its ability to narrowcast, that is to cheaply produce a mass media for an extremely slim audience. computers in libraries, equippted with affordable bandwidth, could be used to do 2 way, interactive, video learning. though texas could not afford to put a loation-speaking expert in each school or district, it certainly could afford one. an interactive classroom, with students in houston, odessa, dallas, and kline could instruct and assist children in their own language. educational materials could be distributed and printed out instantly. on-line tests, quizzes, and (virtual) face to face interation could make grading easy and standardized. the technology and infastructure for such a program is already in place. funding and public support does not seem remote. comments?
