The Hilton in Pittsburgh is a Internet barren dump. The lobby bar is called Scenes and it’s where we were told to setup camp if we needed the unternet to work. Who doesn’t need the Internet to work? How was the block party?

As i posted on Hands Up. I felt weird being over 30 and in attendance. Thanks to Ramon i now know which bands kicked my arse; the riff tiffs!! loved them, loved them, loved them. What i garnered as consensus is that JD and crew busted audio nuts all over the Layne stage with groove-a-licious sound quality and one of the stronger lineups at the fest. enjoyed Balaclavas and Lenny Briscoe there. Hope to enjoy more at the next fest…piece.

Tyagaraja – the (former?) singer of Million Year Dance. We loaded out all our gear after playing and were about ready to head out for guacamole when we decided to take one last look upstairs. When I realized he was about to go on I said we should stay for a couple of songs and hear what he’s been up to lately. He ended up being my favorite performer of the day and we stayed for his whole set and made sure afterwards to tell him how much we loved his stuff. That kind of magic only happens when you’re not looking for it. Fans of Jeff Buckley or Dead Can Dance should check him out asap.
Other than that, I thought American Sharks rocked pretty good, and O Pioneers was Mike’s (Alkari singer) favorite. D. Zavala was good and The Riff Tiffs were too. Do they have an album?
And watching Ben (F*** Transmissions) play bass and guitar at the same time is always impressive.

Block Party was awesome.
Very Young Crowd for sure.
I saw these bands for free while drinking heavily:
News on the March
Hell City Kings
American Sharks
Riff Tiffs
Balaclavas
The Vettes
The Mckenzies
Not bad for being totally drunk by about 5 in the afternoon.
Also someone should think about closing off the street next time.
