ATTN LAST WEEKEND: WE ARE STILL BASKING IN YOU

Well my oh my what a fine weekend it was. Granted, we have heard word that more than a few of you are still shakey pale like a cotton candy twirler from two days of excessive EPIC, but really – it was worth it. We won’t spend too much time writing the weekend up, as plenty of other people already have and plenty pleny more were there for it in the first person. That, and another EPIC WEEKEND lies in wings, waiting to pounce, and it’s already Tuesday. TIME TO REST UP PEOPLE. SHAKA!
HOOTENANNY 2: TWOTENANNY
Part two delivered on the promise of the first and then some. Not only were more folks there, but the bands were superlative superlative superlative. Seriously Whips, and the feedback we’re seeing out there shows that we weren’t to close to the cooking to be real-talk on the soufflé. In the end, only a few folks were turned away because of the last minute change to a 21+ show, and those that did went home with a limited edition “I Tried to Go To The Hootenanny But All I Got Was This Lousy T-Shirt” top from your friends here at the Skyline Network. We have some left, and we’ll most likely be giving them away at upcoming events. Party (we do want to point out, however, that, though we were glad so few kids showed up, it does re-raise the question that continues to vex us about shows around town. WHERE ARE THE KIDS?)
Turning to some reviews, Sara Cress of the Chron’s Handstamp blog had a “grand old time,” and was full of praises for the upstairs bands (she didn’t seem to make it to the sweat box that was the SPIRIT OF THE HOUSE PARTY STAGE), calling Buxton’s performance the “best set of the night hands down I don’t want to argue about it period.” Houston Calling reported that “The Wild Moccasins kill as the B-52s” and indeed, when we saw them the next day it took all we had from our front row vantage not to request they play “Love Shack” again. The Free Press’ Ramon Medina summed up Tody Castillo’s performance as Tom Petty by saying he “screamed the Yeah Yeahs at the top of [his] lungs during their version of ‘The Waiting.’”
Ramon’s post has a link to his flickr, which has lots of great shots of the evening. And who can dominate the photosets like Elissa Brown – check out her shots here. Check out more pics from Eniacmike and Claudia Belle (registration required).
HOUSTON PRESS MUSIC AWARDS SHOWCASE
Coverage of SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY is off the hook, nowhere more fierce than on the Press’ recently re-titled Rocks Off blog. They covered all our favs, plus Dusti Rhodes’ FRIED RICE live blog from the Rice Lofts VIP is a great read, with quickie interviews of a veritable who’s who of the scene (including our own adr)! Once again, photos are everywhere, with nearly fourteen thousand taken by Ramon Medina himself. Check out The Skyline Network Flickr Pool to see all the bests (and be sure to get yours in there by tagging them “theskylinenetwork”).
Phew. We need a glass of water. So much good stuff coming up this week, including the most extreme party call me epic two day Saturday Secret Show Festival – Saturday and Sunday at the Shady Tavern with something like thirty bands for a measly five bucks. YUSS! DETAILS AS SOON AS WE FIND THE ASPRIN!
