Update: We got so many facts wrong on this its kind embarrassing. Check the final few paragraphs for the real deal.
Wow. It’s already Wednesday and we haven’t even posted for the week. What a bunch of slackers. If it weren’t for the fact that we were all so next level, we would probably fire ourselves. That, and we’re in Denver at the moment, and they have much stronger labor laws so NANNY NANNY BOO BOO.
But if you wanna talk about folks that definitely aren’t going to be hitting up the unemployment lines for slacking-related termination reasons anytime soon, look no further than Lance Higdon, Tambersauro (one of his many projects) and the purveyors of products known around town as Esotype Records. Lance the man, Tambersauro the band and Esotype the label have quite a bit of love in store for you this summer. But enough talk, lets get to the, uh, talk about the rock.
First of all, if we get this online in time (Wednesday Night), stop reading and head over to The White Swan, because Tambersauro has a rare show tonight with locals Stove Blow and two bands from St. Louis, Sleep State and Geraldo. Five Bucks. Go. Stop reading, this will be here in the morning, but the opportunity to hear them perform tracks from their forthcoming full length Theories of Delusional Origin will not be.
Speaking of their full length, it’s scheduled for a release on Essotype records in the first half of September, initially on CD and in digital download formats, but they haven’t ruled out doing a vinyl release if the first go-to-market leaves them with enough scratch in the bank for a pressing (and considering how beautifully packaged last year’s split 10″ was, you know they’re not going to just put out some xeroxed crap. REAL TALK: we love xeroxed crap if thats what it takes to get your work on wax and will most assuredly buy a copy of it. What, you think we bought the Fire Team Charlie record because of the cover?!
If the endless complexity funball that was their last release wasn’t enough for you, Lance has informed us that they have delved into the decidedly un-Toby Keith world of odd time signatures, saying their new favorites include “5/8, 11/8, 7/8-4/4 over 4/4, and our first time signature to have occurred in recent history, 19/16″. For history buffs, 1916 was the year Gustav Holst composed The Planets, and the first US air combat mission when we sent 8 planes after Poncho Villa. For the non-minutia minded, 1916 was a year that took place 92 years ago.
But September is a while away, what are we going to do in the meantime? Well, for starters, you can enjoy this promotional video that was assembled by Tambersauronaut Jeff’s 12 year old son:
We haven’t quite worked out which stage around town Legosauro is supposed to be playing at in this depiction, but given that Rudyards seems to be the only venue we can think of where people actually stand in front and center rather than leaving room for an imaginary pit, we’re going to have to put our money on that. For the record, we hope there is a sequel depicting Turbojungend night. Party.
Ok, so, Lance didn’t actually do that himself, right, so what is he really up to? Well, for starters, he’s going to be doing a solo project called Wall With One Side this Friday night at Notsuoh. He describes it as “real-time manipulation of junked-out old stereo sounds,” and hints that there may be some collaboration involved with the above mentioned pre-teen legovision director. Likewise, he’s said that there are plans in the works for his Golden Cities project (remember Grey Ghost #49? Of course you do) to finally break out of the studio and onto the stage. They also plan on releasing a full on album as early as August.
No enough side projects for you (the count is at two right now), then go ahead and add to that new work from his Latin-lyriced (he teaches the language, you know) grindcore duo Cicero, and the first known attempt to perform real-time screwed/chopped rap using Esotype records’ back catalog under the name Grey Tapes. Want more? How about coast-to-coast collaboration 20 Glances of the Infant Jesus, which will may or may not include Dubtex’s Ferenj (we don’t know what that means, but we assume it will be cool). You know, we know that sometimes when people call Houston the city of a thousand side projects, its meant as a cut, but at times like this we can’t help but see the WHIPS of it all.
Lance isn’t the only Tambersauroite (that sounds like a rock) engaged in after-school activities. Bassist Jeff Price is a full on member of the soon to be doing stuff again dreamy smart-pop outfit Sea Surrounds Me (who will also be playing Friday at Notsuoh).
Anyway, look for more updates on these and other Esotype happenings through-out the summer. I mean, would it really surprise you if they came up with more?
